About Toto

During the recording process of the fifth album, the group loses its manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name with an entirely different producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.

The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a massive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they come to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa on a recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
